Tips for Fall Boating on Lake Winnipesaukee
Nothing beats being out on the lake with the crisp Autumn air and the view of the gorgeous fall foliage dotting the shoreline. There isn't much that compares to Lake Winnipesaukee, Lake Sunapee, or Ossipee Lake in the fall, so it makes sense to make the most out of New Hampshire's short boating season by enjoying some chillier days on the water in the fall. That being said, here are 5 tips for Fall boating on our gorgeous New Hampshire lakes in Wolfeboro, Meredith, Sunapee, and Ossipee. 1. Check your navigational lights. With days getting shorter in the fall, it's important to remember to check your navigational lights before heading out. It starts getting dark much earlier in the evening now! 2. Keep an eye on the sky. Fall storms can move in fast, and it's never fun to get caught in the pouring rain and having a super cold ride back. 3. Gas up before you get underway. Fall on Lake Winnipesaukee means that gas docks are starting to close up and shorten their hours. It's beneficial to gas up before heading out and risking the chance of not being able to find an open gas dock. 4. Layer up. Nights are chilly in New Hampshire during the fall, and days can be too! The best rule to follow when gearing up for a fall boating trip is that you can always remove layers, but once you're out there, you are stuck with what you brought. Always dress warm and be prepared. 5. Take in the views! We personally think that the best way to leaf peep in our neck of the woods (or should we say lake?) is by boat! Be sure to bring a phone or camera to take pictures with - the views on Lake Winnipesaukee, Ossipee Lake, and Lake Sunapee will surely be breathtaking!
